Intermittent Spluttering / loss of power MC2 Aerodeck
Dave replied to frunkster's topic in Engine & Chassis
Good shout Simon, probably cheaper to replace the complete dizzy than it is just to buy the ignitor thingy. Infact, if the ignitor is worn out, chances are the rest of the dizzy would be too. -

Thats what Civic5 was all about right from the start mate, and what makes us a bit different to most other car forums/FB groups. Always someone happy to help here. If the EM light didn't come on, then possibly not the ignitor then (which is lucky as that part was I think £300 from Honda last time I got one which was around 6, maybe 7 years ago). Not even sure Honda still stock them and the aftermarket ones fail big time. I bought two, both left me stranded byt the side of the road within 1 week of driving, hence had to bite the bullet and buy genuine Honda part. But as said, if the EML doesn't come on during the fault, then that should rule that out. Dodged a bullet there! lol -
Browsing ebay and found this. Looks amazing condition with only 18.000 miles on the clock, two owners from new. Very hard to find one like this, but don't think I could justify.........£6495 for an MB6! Still, would love to own this. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-Civic-1-8-VTI-Very-Low-Mileage-ONLY-18K-Service-History-Lot-of-paperwork/233074530457?hash=item3644531899:g:VQUAAOSwTY9buQTO:rk:4:pf:0 Pic of the car

Intermittent Spluttering / loss of power MC2 Aerodeck

No need to apologize mate, we've all been there (me included! Had a heart attack last week!) so health takes priority over everything. Hope you get it sorted soon, but if it turns out not to be the 02 sensor it could well be the ignitor in the distributor. Do you get the engine management light coming on when the fault happens? -
Can't see there being any issues if swapping like for like mate, although being a newer type car you never know! Let us know how it goes bud.

Yes deffo get it posted up over there mate so we can follow where you go with this one. Not got a mk1 golf joined yet let alone a convertible so yours will be the first! Plus we have the free competition running just now over there with a great Bluetooth hands free/mp3 player for the winner!

See, I wouldn't use that. One thing I used to get a bollocking for when I was getting driving lessons was not using my mirrors enough. My excuse was "what's in the mirror behind me is history, I'm more interested in what's in front!" Lol driving instructor didn't seem too impressed with my comment!

Damn bad luck indeed with the engine mate. Overall though she looks like a really tidy VTiS, and knowing your attention to detail, this will be one of the best! Getting myself comfy to watch this build!

What pressies did your modern classic get for Christmas? Let's see them here! Mindy my MK1 MX5 got nice stainless steel will covers courtesy of my wife Gayle. Carly Cooper (my gen 2 MINI) got two new rear brake calipers, pads and sensors (cos the brakes went on Christmas Eve!) Will add a pic of those later. DD my Honda Civic Aerodeck got a promise from me to renew her front caliper and get her mot, plus possibly some paintwork in the spring/summer.

Small update. Got The last alloy fitted so she's now back riding on her original 5 spoke alloys, all nicely returned in white. Really think it changes her look. Lucky boy, Gayle got me new things for Mindy as part of my Christmas pressies! OEM stainless will covers! Been wanting these for ages, so got them fitted. Going to give them a good polish as I have a full metal polishing kit, but tbh they're in really nice condition anyways so that can wait for a bit Next up, fixed the driver's door handle which was previously not sitting right (was sticking out at one end) (see previous post) so with a new wee bit of rubber put in place (I had some of those stick on rubber feet for laptops etc lying spare) the handle now sits flush like it should (and my OCD Balance is restored!) Can just see Carly Cooper's bum peeking out from the garage! That's the job today (which went tits up!) Fitting new rear brake calipers, pads and sensors. Will update Carly's thread with the dismal job later.

Not a lot been happening in Mindy's world recently due to time of year. Did hwoever get the last wheel finally into lacquer just before Christmas and then went out yesterday and got it fitted so she's now sitting on her original alloys all refurbed. Another reason I was out in the garage yesterday........my mrs Gayle got me a wee present for Mindy for my Christmas! We both love the stainless sill steps/covers, so she found me an original set and got me those. We fitted them yesterday and they really make a big difference when you open the door. Looks so much better now she has some jewellery on! Do like a bit of bling! I'll get a photo posted soon. Really wanted to take her out today for a drive, but the roads are still damp/wet around here. Gayle told me under no uncertain terms is Mindy venturing out onto the roads when there's still salt on them! Think she's more protective of this little car than even I am!! lol

You too mate! Had a good one here and santa Gayle got me some new bits for Mindy our MK1 mx5! All's good! Hope you all had a great Christmas folks!

Great to see her up and running again mate! Suits the new wheels nicely

Can't beat a good garage mate! I'd be lost without mine now. Said to Gayle, when we retire abroad (probably Spain) won't be looking at any house unless there's a double garage. She found a beauty the other night, 3 bed bungalow (new build) and the entire basement was a garage! Room for 3 cars easily and still space to work and have benches etc. Cheap as chips too £100.000! If we could have afforded to just now, we'd have been off! House was amazing. And the garage floor was all fancy polished (looked like a marble type material). Truly was amazing!

Would be a nice mod if a kit exists mate. Bound to be something on eBay, or maybe a Google search? If you (or anyone else!) finds a kit let us know. A mod id be interested in for sure!

Haha, long time no see Dougie! Glad to see you've still got the mb6, Jersey has it been over 3 years since you were down here? Looking forward to seeing the updates mate!

If I remember rightly they prise off from the outside with the trim tool (hopefully someone will be along to clarify this!). The clips are pretty fragile though so do remove carefully.

For info on model codes (mb6, mc2, mc1 etc) and loads of useful info check in here mate.

Wow! Bad that the previous owner let the oil go so low, but these engines are pretty bullet proof so depending on mileage, a rebuild might not be needed. Although saying that, nothing like a freshly rebuilt engine for piece of mind.

Welcome John, really sweet looking VTi you've got. Quite rare in white as well, has she been resprayed as the inner wings look like pirates black? The model you've got is an MB6 (1.8 VTi 5door hatch), the MC2 is the 1.8 VTi Aerodeck (civic estate). Nice list of mods , what's the plans for this one? Engine bay looks mega clean! And that air intake blended into front bumper looks ace!

looking soooo clean mate! Have to say I love the alloys, look so right on it. The bump strips on the bumper are part of it, bumper and strips all moulded from one piece of plastic. You can mask up the bumper for painting the strips though, or you could wrap them in carbon effect vinyl or something similar. The strips on the doors can all be removed. The fogs/drls look sweet!
